Treating Low Back Pain: The New Paradigm Using Core Movement Integration & Feldenkrais Principles

Sunday, October 24 10 am to 5:30pm

CI Instructor: Arthur Madore, LMT, CNMT

Enhance your therapy skills by adding integration of movement, hands on and exercise.

All activities of daily life are made easier when the Core pathways ( through pelvis, low back and ribs) move properly without strain, pain or restriction. In this workshop we look at how addressing of key core muscles can reduce low back pain, and improve functional movement. For each comfortable position of our low back you will learn the corresponding position of the pelvis and ribs.

The large muscles of the legs, (quads, TFL, adductors, and hamstrings) control the position of the pelvis from below. The posterior hip muscles control the pelvis from the back. The iliopsoas and abdominals play a large role in pulling the spine from the front. The low back muscles (erectors, multifidis, and quadratus lumborum) often react to the tightness of these other three muscle groups. Relaxing these muscles and connecting them to the Core Integration pathways is a powerful combination that greatly enhances the effects of conventional therapies.

Become a Certified Educator of Infant Massage (CEIM)

Teaching infant massage is a rewarding opportunity to enhance parent-infant bonding, improve and maintain physical well-being of babies, and facilitate long-term, positive emotional development.

Our four-day infant massage educator training prepares the participant for teaching parents and caregivers how to massage their infants and children. Educators work with parents, families, and caregivers in private, group, hospital, and agency settings. In addition to teaching private and group classes, educators may also participate in research studies, conduct in-service programs, and present at professional conferences.

The Importance of Infant Massage
Clinical research confirms the importance of a secure, loving environment and nurturing touch in the healthy growth, development and maturation of children (T. Field-University of Miami Medical Center). Parents bond and attach strongly to their children when nurturing touch is deliberately introduced to foster secure relationships (S. Bavolek). Current findings on early childhood brain development reveal the benefits of positive contact as an integral part of a baby’s early life, and the unfortunate results when this early attention is lacking (B. Perry). Parents report increased feelings of confidence in caring for their baby as a result of infant massage classes. This program can be used effectively with home visiting, foster and adoptive parents, teen parents, incarcerated mothers, homeless families, and women in recovery.Comments by a Director for an Early Intervention Agency

“Teaching families how to massage and nurture their babies helps us achieve our program’s goals of enhancing parent infant interaction and promoting healthy growth and development. We saw immediate results with the improvement of bonding and parent- child interaction.”Cost of Training

The training fee of $625 (registration less than 3 weeks prior to the training is $650) includes Vimala McClure’s book Infant Massage: a Handbook for Loving Parents, the International Infant Massage Instructor Manual, supplemental materials, certification exam review and one year membership to Infant Massage USA ®. This is an International Certification – as Infant Massage USA® is the only U.S. Chapter of the International Association, founded by Vimala McClure and represented in over 40 countries worldwide.Certified Educator Training Program

Our 15-point core curriculum is designed to offer students the knowledge base, experience, and confidence needed to fulfill their role as instructors. During this four-day training, students watch and help teach three parent-baby classes in the local community. To earn your infant massage educator certification, you must:

Movement is essential to the developing brains of infants. Research shows that we are never too old to create new connections in the brain. Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons are verbally guided movement sequences which help to clarify fundamental biological movement patterns and bring us closer to our optimum functioning as human beings. By slowing down, reducing your effort, and becoming aware of your habits and preferences in movement, more of your whole self becomes involved in every action. Previously unseen possibilities become available. Your system becomes more efficient and free to move with ease and spontaneity.

Flexible Spine/Flexible Mind

Starting May 17, 5 Mondays 6:30-7:30pm. Click HERE for more information.

Functional Integration® (FI)

FI is the hands-on version of the Feldenkrais Method®. FI lessons are fully clothed hands-on neuromuscular re-patterning that help you access your potential for movement and living. Enhancing the functioning of your nervous system has a direct impact on how you perceive and act in the world. Tiffany tailors each lesson to your needs and interests. Benefits include but are not limited to improvements in:

• posture
